A community in Kissimmee was shaken Sunday after a shooting near an elementary school.

  • Shooting took place on W. Columbia Avenue and Bassinger Street
  • Central Avenue Elementary School just blocks away
  • Nearby resident said she heard five to eight gunshots

Kissimmee Police said the shooting took place on West Columbia Avenue and Bassinger Street, just blocks away from Central Avenue Elementary School.

Officers canvassed the area Sunday, utilizing an aerial unit and K9s to track down who might be responsible. So far, officers have only found bullet casing at the scene.

Resident Brunilda Concepcion told us her teenage daughter was home when she heard five to eight gunshots.

"Yes I am afraid. Yes I don't want to be here," said Concepcion, whose home's front window faces the parking lot of the school. "But you know what? Someone has to take the fight, and we need to clean this area. Someone has to care."

No further information has been released by Kissimmee Police at this time.
