Forty Central Florida children went home with their new families Friday as part of National Adoption Day celebrations.

  • National Adoption Day Friday
  • 40 kids officially adopted
  • 100 children in Central Florida in foster care

This year, Community Based Care teamed up with Orange, Seminole, and Osceola County judges to help streamline the adoption proceedings.

Kids were able to play games, bond with their new families and eat plenty of sweet treats.

For many of the families this was their first adoption. However, the Davidson family went through this before. They adopted their first son, Michael when he was 14 years old.

"It really is life fulfilling. My eldest son said he feels like he has a future because he said he never had that before," said Richard Zulkowski, Michael's parent.

Now the Davidsons visited the Orange County Courthouse again, this time to make two new additions to their family.

"They are very comfortable and it seemed like they always belonged," Zulkowski said.

Elyjh, 6, and Ederiyn, 7, both came to Jefferey Davidson and Richard Zulkowski just a little over 90 days ago. Friday they left with new toys, lots of candy and a new last name.

"You know they become your heart. Just like they are part of you. Regardless of birth they are always my children," Zulkowski said.

More children were adopted during this year's National Adoption Day even than in previous years. However, officials with Community Based Care said another 100 children in Central Florida are still in the foster care system.
