Everyone was very excited about this month’s supermoon, but our latest cold front threw a wrench in the viewing plans for Central Florida.

We were stuck with overcast skies when the supermoon was at its closest point to earth on Monday morning. It was the closest the moon has been since 1948.
The next supermoon like this will occur in 2034. All is not lost though.
You can still see an impressive moon over the next couple of days. In general, a supermoon appears 14 percent bigger and about 30 percent brighter than a normal full moon.
Our next supermoon, although not as close, will be on December 14. That timing coincides with the Geminid meteor shower which means the extra brightness from the supermoon will make it much more difficult to see the shower.
Normally the shower peaks with more than a 100 meteors per hour, but we will only see about a dozen or so. Good news for moon watchers, but bad news for Geminid viewing.
