Residents at a Brevard County apartment building damaged by Hurricane Matthew still don't know when they will move in. One resident says she's worried she may be homeless now.

  • No word on when Blue Beach Club Apartments will be liveable
  • Residents found their items removed
  • So far no assistance for displaced residents

“It was awful, just awful, they said you have an hour to get out of here," said former Blue Beach Club Apartment tenant Sally Cataroni.

A majority of the units at the Blue Beach Club Apartments in Titusville were flooded when winds from Hurricane Matthew ripped the roof off the building.

Hundreds of people were evacuated and told the building was condemned.

Cataroni says she is struggling to find a place to live. She and several other tenants claim the building management threw out their belongings without informing them.

“No one was allowed in. Then after 4 or 5 days we could go in with an escort," Cataroni said. "But where was my table, where were my chairs, my TV? It was all gone."

Cataroni believes she could end up homeless without some type of assistance.

We spoke with management a few weeks back. They say they had been informing residents prior to the end of October that they needed to remove their belongings or they would for them. However Cataroni and other residents we spoke to say they were left off the list.

After original publication of this article, a spokesperson from the apartment complex said residents were given reasonable notice to vacate and that Cataroni's furniture was donated to her.

FEMA representatives have looked at the apartment building but have offered no time frame for when residents can return or what kind of help they can receive.

Brevard County officials said last month that property managers believe only two units in the building were insured using renters insurance.
