At about 7:02 a.m., officers were called to the 1000 block of south Highway 441 (also known as South Pine Avenue) to investigate an accident that involved two vehicles, a 2002 Ford and 2002 Honda, and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was crossing east to west on South Pine Avenue as a 2002 Honda was traveling northbound, police stated.

The Honda allegedly struck the person, who came to rest in the southbound, inside lane of the avenue. The Ford, which was traveling southbound in the inside lane of the highway, also hit the pedestrian, police said.

“The pedestrian did not survive the crash and was pronounced deceased by Ocala Fire Rescue. At this time next of kin have not been notified. The investigation is ongoing, therefore charges are pending,” Sgt. Cynthia Barnes, the public information officer with the department, stated in the news release.
