People in Brevard County are finding more baby sea turtles washing up on shore.

  • Sea Turtle Preservation Society received 50 washback turtles
  • If you find a washback turtle, call the group
  • Don't put the turtle back in the water, it may drown

The Sea Turtle Preservation Society says it received 50 turtles at its healing center Thursday morning.

Officials there have a warning for people who may come across more washback turtles.

"If they do find a hatchling on the water, on the beach, what they should do is contact us, and do not put it back into the water," said Roger Pszonowsky with the society.

The reason -- because the little guys are exhausted and will likely drown.

Instead, put them in a dry container with a little damp seaweed, then call the Sea Turtle Preservation Society's hotline at 321-206-0646.
