More than a dozen firefighters battled the pre-dawn fire at the Woodside Apartments located on Southeast 107th Street in Belleview. The call came in around 2:30 a.m.

Frances, who didn't want her last name revealed, is one of five residents who are now displaced. She said she woke up to her neighbors screaming and banging on her door.

"She said, 'Get out! Fire! Fire!' and I walked out here and the flames were just huge," Frances said. "The first thing I thought about was to go back and get my dog, so that's what I did."

Marion County Fire Rescue said crews were also able to save some valuable items by using salvage covers or tarps.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's office.
