A teen boy who was shot and critically hurt as he stood on his front porch during a block party to celebrate his 17th birthday has died, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

  • 16-year-old boy, 18-year-old woman shot at block party
  • Block party was to celebrate boy's 17th birthday Monday
  • Boy died at ORMC on Sunday night, deputies say

The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 2400 block of Kingsland Avenue, near Silver Star and North Pine Hill roads.

Detectives said Terrance Travon Givens, 16, was standing on the front porch of his family's home during a gathering to celebrate his 17th birthday, which was Monday, when he was shot. He was taken in critical condition to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died Sunday, the Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives think there were about 50 to 60 people present outside the residence at the time of the shooting.

An 18-year-old woman was also shot during the gathering. The woman, who has not been identified, was struck in the foot and treated and released at ORMC.

Rebecca Francois says she was so close to her neighbor Terrance Givens, she considered him a cousin.

“He would always come and play on the Playstation, and he was very funny,” said Francois.

The 10-year-old, with the permission of her mother, wanted to share her memories of Givens, and her feelings now that he’s gone.

“I’m very sad that Terrance died because he was very close to our family,” said Francois.

There's no known motive yet for the shooting, deputies said. Anyone with information on this homicide is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). There is a reward of up to $5,000 for information.
