An 8-year-old boy in Palm Bay died Saturday after he was struck by a car, according to Palm Bay Police.

  • Wyatt Taylor, 8, ran out into the street, according to investigators
  • Taylor was struck by a car driven by a 16 year old male driver
  • Driver was driving legally, had parent in passenger seat at time of crash

Officials said the incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the area of Riviera Drive NE and Woodlawn Circle.

Witnesses told police that Wyatt Taylor, 8, attempted to cross the street to get to his family when he was struck by a 16-year-old male driver heading south on Riviera Drive.

Officers responded and rendered medical aid before the victim was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he died.

"I saw the family heading down there to the park, and I noticed they never came back," said John Hendrickson, a neighbor. "It's just such a sad situation."

Investigators at this time do not believe charges will be brought against the driver of the car.

"The 16-year-old driver is licensed and was traveling legally down the street with a parent in the front seat," said traffic homicide investigator Jeff Reardon.
