Seminole County Sheriff’s Deputy Anthony McDaniel now has another member of the family after a routine patrol through a Winter Springs neighborhood took an unexpected turn.

McDaniel said a woman in the neighborhood needed help. She was trying to free a kitten that had gotten itself stuck in the inside of the door of a Dodge truck. Other deputies and Seminole County Animal Control tried to get the kitten free, but every time anyone tried to move the door, the kitten would begin to get pinched.

Deputy McDaniel then thought of using some baby oil to loosen the kitten, and it worked. The kitten got free from the hinge it was stuck on, and the woman who had reached out to the deputy took it to a veterinarian to get checked out.

But she already had other pets and couldn’t adopt another one. After posting a notice on Facebook, Deputy McDaniel decided to adopt the kitten, and he named him "Dodge."

A post about the story on Seminole County Sheriff Office’s Facebook page has hundreds of comments from people praising the deputy for rescuing and adopting the kitten.
