A Seminole County man was arrested Friday morning and charged with DUI after a wrong-way crash in Orange County left two people injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

  • The driver, Joel Padilla, was arrested for DUI

The crash occurred at 3:10 a.m. on State Road 417 near Curry Ford Road in Orlando.

Troopers say Joel Padilla, 32, of Sanford, was driving a 2003 Hummer south in the northbound lanes on SR 417 when he struck a Nissan head-on.

The driver of the Nissan, Shar-da Tabuteau, 22, of Orlando, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The Nissan crossed into the direct path of a 2014 Chevy Camaro, driven by Hermann Sonthax, 26, of Pompano Beach, hitting it.  

According to troopers, Sonthax sustained minor injuries.

Padilla was arrested, charged with DUI and booked into the Orange County Jail. Investigators say he had a blood alcohol level of .149 percent.
