A Lake County police department will be moving into a new $8 million building in the next few weeks.

  • New Clermont Police Headquarters to service 70 officers, growing city
  • New station is more centrally located

The new Clermont Police headquarters is a two-story building on Highway 27 adjacent to the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center.

The old police station in the downtown area was designed to house about 25 officers, but Clermont Police has grown to about 70 officers and authorities say the city itself has grown as well.

"The location for the expanding Clermont needed to be more centrally located and here on US 27 we are in the middle. Our response times from the station will be more centrally located," said Deputy Chief Shelli Walters.

The building features an air conditioned lift room to process vehicles involved in crimes on site.

Money for the building comes from the 1 cent sales tax.
