A power outage is the latest worry tenants at a Kissimmee hotel are facing following a long litigation battle.

  • Heritage Park Inn in Kissimmee
  • 70 families without power
  • Part of a dispute between hotel owners, condo association

More than 70 families at Heritage Park Inn have no power and the question of when the electricity will be restored remains unanswered.

When it comes to the future of Heritage Park Inn, residents are being left in the dark, literally.

"It is very depressing," said Israel Carrasquillo.

At this point the power has been shut off due to non-payment. According to KUA, over $24,000 are owed.

With no electricity, Carrasquillo and his partner, Candace Oyola, said they cannot take proper care of their child. Even the food in their fridge has spoiled.

"I am frustrated. I have to see her sweating. And I have to take her cold showers and she's freezing," Oyola said.

But it's not the residents' bills that are past due. They've shelled out money and even showed us their receipts.

This is all part of a dispute between the condo association and one of the hotel owners, which owns more than 50 units. They disagree on who should pay the bills.

But for the families, they don’t know where their money is going. Also, it's not just about the "now" but what the future holds for them and their kids.

"And we're hoping for some transparency, like information being told and being warned of when things are going to happen here," Carrasquillo said.

The hotel owner we spoke with says the goal is to appoint a third party to take over responsibilities -- like paying bills.

The condo association, on the other hand, is trying to get the help of an investor. There will be a board meeting on Friday.
