As it does every year around this time, Biketoberfest has taken over the streets of Daytona Beach for the weekend. However, there aren't quite as many riders or vendors this year, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

  • Biketoberfest is hosted in Daytona Beach, October 13 - 16
  • Vendor numbers visibly lower than previous years
  • Organizers attribute decline to Hurricane Matthew

While many participants turned out, some Biketoberfest vendors decided not to open up shop following the storm.

“There are fewer vendors here now than my past experience,” said Security Officer Paul Ryan.

According to Ryan, the event usually draws five times as many vendors.

“It’s not going to be as big this year,” said Lori Campbell Baker, who works at Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “

Organizers say they aren’t certain how many people will attend the three-day event.

“The path of Hurricane Matthew very much affected our traditional demographics,” added Baker. “Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, that whole Southeastern United States is our visitor base so many of them are still digging out of the hurricane.”
