A tree-trimmer was killed late Friday morning after an apparent electrocution by a live power line in Volusia County, the Sheriff's Office said.

Arthur Grimes, 52, of Osteen, who was at a residence on Leeward Drive in Deltona, was up in a lift in the backyard trimming limbs on a large pine tree with a pole saw, according to deputies. A witness heard the worker scream, and he was seen by two residents slumped over and unconscious in the lift.

They called to Grimes and banged on the metal frame of the lift but got no response. Firefighters and paramedics arrived just after 11 a.m. Grimes was taken by ambulance to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, where he was pronounced dead at 11:59 a.m.

Florida Power & Light shut down the power grid briefly while the man was lowered to the ground.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating.
