  • The investigation into the child's death is ongoing

Oviedo Police officers were called to a home on Sharon Court at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, regarding an unresponsive child. The boy, who was found in a bed, died at an area hospital.

Police said the child's mom, her boyfriend and a cousin all lived at the same house. All three have hired lawyers, police said.

On Friday, police said they were interviewing the child's mother and her lawyer.

Sybonne Schelling said she was out of the country when she received a phone call from her sister that her grandson had died.

"He was a beautiful baby," Schelling said. "He was rambunctious, he loved to play."

Schelling said she has no idea how the child died, and said her son was estranged from the child's mom.

"I need to know what happened to my grandson," she said. "I need justice."

No suspects have been identified or apprehended. Oviedo Police have not confirmed the boy's name.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Kim Mojica at 407-971-4958.
