Despite the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew, Volusia County’s Biketoberfest will start on Thursday as planned.

  • Dozens of hotels closed because of Hurricane Matthew
  • Officials setting up detours along A1A
  • Safety a major concern

The annual fall motorcycle celebration draws about 120,000 people.

Organizers of the event said even though there are 17 motels and hotels closed because of Hurricane Matthew, there are still enough rooms in the city.  However, there are also safety concerns for riders.

Many bikers take scenic routes throughout Volusia and Flagler counties so the Florida Highway Patrol said there will be detours.

FHP said there will be detours on A1A in Flagler County.

The detour takes traffic from A1A onto South Central Avenue at 8th Street South and 22nd Street South in Flagler Beach.

The Flagler Beach Police Department said they want to make sure bikers coming for Biketoberfest can do so safely.

Biketoberfest starts today and runs through Sunday.
