At a time when tensions are high between police officers and citizens, one local event hopes to unite law enforcement agencies and the community in Central Florida.

  • "I Care for Law Enforcement 2016" benefits wounded officers
  • 300 riders expected at today's event

About 300 riders are expected to attend a police escorted motorcycle ride at the Seminole Harley Davidson Store in Sanford on Saturday.

“I Care for Law Enforcement 2016” will benefit wounded law enforcement officers, some from the Pulse nightclub shooting.  It also helps get the community involved to support law enforcement agencies across the country.

The ride is hosted by three agencies: Orange County Sheriff's Office, Windermere Police Foundation and Wounded Officers Initiative.

The Wounded Officers initiative was co-founded by Jimmy Brown who is a former New York City police officer and firefighter.

Brown said events like this are important to have during a time of growing protests throughout the country.

"It's an opportunity to come out and like I said voice their support for law enforcement because at the end of the day law enforcement officers are all human and law enforcement officers only get the authority that the public and the society is willing to give them," said Brown.

The one-hour ride kicks off at 10:30 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.
