The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body that was found burned in the woods near DeLand.
Investigators say the victim is 52-year-old Malcolm Rule. His last known address was in Orange City.
Friday night, deputies were called to the area near the Budget Inn on East New York Avenue about a man who was sleeping on a bench. Deputies arrived and told the man he would have to leave. Investigators say Rule is the same man deputies encountered.
On Saturday a call came in at 3:34 p.m. about a fire in the woods near the same area of Friday’s incident.
A few minutes later, a witness at the scene reported finding a burnt body.
Investigators say the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on Monday.
