Gatorland is launching a wheelchair-accessible zip line, a first for the Southeast, the attraction says.

The longtime Orlando attraction's "Gator Gauntlet" offers physically disabled guests the chance to ride 350 feet down a zip line over a lake of alligators.

“We’re not aware of any other place in the Southeast that’s offering this type of experience,” Gatorland president and CEO Mark McHugh said in a news release.

To commemorate the opening of the ride, Gatorland is offering the ride free for certain groups for a three-day promotion:

  • On Thursday, Feb. 4, military veterans with mobility challenges can reserve a ride on the line.
  • On Friday, Feb. 5, free rides will be available to Florida Disabled Outdoors Association members.
  • On Saturday, Feb. 6, middle- to high-school students with mobility challenges in Orange and Osceola counties can ride the zip line.

During the promotion, each rider will get a thumb drive with pictures of their ride, a free lunch and free admission to Gatorland.

Gator Gauntlet riders must meet certain strength, coordination and size requirements. For more information and to reserve a spot, contact Gatorland at 407-855-5496, ext. 0.
