A man charged with attempted first degree murder of two Brevard County deputies in Mims Tuesday morning will remain in jail.

Skylar Francis, 22, appeared in court Wednesday for the first time since his arrest on two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

Francis is accused of attacking deputies Michael Hriciso and Marie Skinner when they responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 26-hundred block of Pineapple Avenue.

The fight involved Francis and 22-year old Courtney Johnson.

Investigators say Francis pulled out a collapsible baton and struck Hriciso over the head several times, and also hit Skinner when she tried to help.

Both were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries but are expected to recover.

“Fortunately we will have both deputies available to testify, they are both alive and that's preeminent in our concern, we have both officers here,” said prosecutor Gary Beatty.

Prosecutors say Francis had a clean record up to this point and now could face up to life in prison.

His next court date is March 1.

Johnson was charged with interfering with an arrest, and bonded out of jail Wednesday morning.
