A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Sanford, police said.

Tooney McCants turned himself into the Sanford Police Department at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to a news release.

On Wednesday night, police responded to a 911 call about possible gunshots at a residence in the 400 block of Mellonville Avenue. 

When police arrived, they found a man, identified as Marquis Grooms, dead from gunshot wounds.

A second victim, Whitney McCloud, was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

No additional details have been released.
