An 18-year-old woman was killed in a single vehicle crash near the University of Central Florida Friday night.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Helen Lewis-Verdu was traveling southbound on Alayafa Trail and trying to make a U-turn at University Boulevard and lost control when a tire on her car blew out.
The car left the roadway, overturned, and then struck a pole.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said a small puppy in the car was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
