Just off the crashing waves in New Smyrna Beach, a sign blows in the breeze with a renowned face still smiling.

"Bob really wanted everyone to be able to paint," says an instructor at the head of the class.

In a strip mall two blocks from the beach, the Bob Ross Art Workshop and Gallery in Volusia County is home to humming brushes where visitors can learn to paint like the master.

The late Bob Ross captivated and inspired.

"It's just so relaxing," said painting student Yolanda Cabrera, who visiting from Delaware. "We live in lives full of stress. And once you can focus on your work, everything else just dissipates."

Cabrera scheduled her Florida vacation around the workshop.

Following Ross' passing in 1995, the Orlando native’s legacy lives on — not only in the paint, but in the joy of painting.

"He's just entertaining to watch, he draws people in," Douglas Hallgren, workshop manager, said of Ross' famed PBS television show.

Workshops like this one give folks the chance to learn something new in the same space in Volusia County where Ross worked.

"He would come here and demo quite often," Hallgren said of Ross, noting he would be at work in the same gallery space where students paint today.

When they are done, students autograph their canvas and take it home as a souvenir from the class.
