A man accused of robbing a Circle K convenience store at gunpoint was arrested early Thursday after he swam around a lake for more than two hours and also fought off a K-9 unit, police  said.

Orlando police were dispatched just after 2 a.m. to the Circle K at 401 N. John Young Parkway to a report of a man, later identified as 22-year-old Max Gracia, armed with a firearm.

Gracia had his face covered with a white T-shirt and approached the clerk and demanded cash. He left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

While investigating the incident, police located a person along the 3500 block of West Robinson Street. When they made contact with the man, Gracia began to "physically attack one of the officers when they attempted to detain him," a report states.

Gracia eventually broke free and was later found swimming in Lake Mann. Officers set up a perimeter around the north side of the lake, and a helicopter assisted in locating Gracia, who was swimming off shore.

An Orlando police boat surrounded Gracia, but he physically fought off a police K-9 and tried to exit the water and run from authorities, a report states.

Gracia eventually went back into the water and refused to comply with orders. Police said he remained in the water for about two hours.

The man eventually was standing in waist-deep water when two Orlando police officers were able to take him into custody.

The investigation revealed a bag that was thrown down by Gracia containing evidence of the robbery. Police also recovered cash believed to have been stolen from the convenience store and the weapon used in the robbery.

No one was injured during the incident.

Gracia was arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm, resisting arrest without violence, resisting arrest with violence and interfering with obstruct police dog/horse.
