Despite Erika's loss of tropical characteristics, residents on the Space Coast are preparing for heavy rain, just in case.

Hundreds of sandbags have already been given out at locations like the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office farm near Cocoa.

Vehicles packed Pluckebaum Road Friday, waiting to get sandbags.

Homeowners can continue to get sandbags:

  • Brevard County Sheriff's Office Work Farm
    Saturday through Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 10-bag limit
    • 2955 Pluckebaum Road, Cocoa
  • Titusville City Garage Compound
    10-bag limit, Titusville residents only
    • 101 N. Singleton Avenue, Titusville

Supervised inmate work crews are filling the bags and loading them into vehicles.

Residents say it’s better to be safe than sorry.
