Substance abuse counselors will be at a south Orange County condo complex all next week after more than a dozen people overdosed on heroin in a 24-hour period.
The sheriff's office said at least 15 people overdosed at Blossom Park Condos, near the Florida Mall. Three people died.
In the wake of more than a dozen recent heroin overdoses in one Orange County community, mayor Teresa Jacobs is now taking action.
Investigators said they believe there was more than heroin in what people were buying and whatever that was likely led to the overdoses.
The sheriff’s office is increasing its presence with deputies around the clock at the Blossom Park condos.
Sheriff Jerry Demings wants everyone to know if you’re coming to Blossom Park to buy drugs, deputies will be waiting for you.
Now Mayor Teresa Jacobs is sending a mobile team to the complex.
They will be there all next week to provide assessments and education about treatment options and community resources.
It's part of the county's new heroin task force to help curb the problem in the county.
