In a News 13 exclusive, former Orlando police chief Val Demings announced in our studios Monday that she is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016.

This is the second time Demings is running in District 10, and against the same person who won that election in 2012, incumbent Republican Rep. Daniel Webster.

In an exclusive interview Monday, Demings said the redrawing of district lines by the Florida Legislature will help her chances of winning.

"I am hoping that his district will become more Democratic," Demings said. "I am running in 2016, and I am going to win."

Webster last week asked Florida legislators to vote down a proposed map, which upends District 10 to consist of only west Orange County, including parts of Orlando. The district currently also includes a large portion of Lake County and northeastern Polk County.
