At least three people were injured after two vehicles exchanged gunfire while driving down a road in the middle of the day Saturday in Brevard County.

Titusville police responded just after 2 p.m. to a report of a shooting on Day Street.

Officers arrived to the scene and discovered a Toyota Highlander crashed into a tree. Two people inside the vehicle were injured from gunshot wounds. A third person had minor injuries but wasn't shot.

According to preliminary investigation, the black Toyota Highlander, which was reported stolen out of Cocoa Beach, was involved in an unknown dispute with passengers in another vehicle described as a dark-colored sedan.

Witnesses described the two vehicles as "shooting" at each other as they drove down Day Street, a release states. The Toyota crashed into a tree and the other vehicle fled the scene.

An adult male and a male juvenile were transported to area hospitals with gunshot wounds.

A third person in the stolen vehicle, another juvenile, was taken into custody for questioning, police said.

Anyone with information on the dark-colored sedan and the suspects in the shooting is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
