The search is on for a man who shot and killed a woman Saturday in Orange County, deputies said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office received a call around 1:05 p.m. about a woman in the street along Rubens Court, which is east of North Hiawassee Road.

According to 911 calls, the woman was either the victim of a vehicle accident or shooting.

Another vehicle was seen leaving the area of the incident, deputies said.

Deputies said two children belonging to the victim were at the scene, but they weren't injured.

The shooting was domestic-related, according to deputies. It happened at the woman's house.

Capt. Angelo Nieves, of the Orange County Sheriff's Office, said there is an active search for the shooter, who has been identified.

Family friends near the scene said the man was the father of one of the children and that there have been ongoing problems between the couple.

"This lady has been going from home to home because she couldn't stay at her own house because he has been threatening to kill her for years now, and she said she had gone to the police and put in a report," said Cynthia Cater, a friend of the woman who was killed. "Nothing has been done."

Investigators at the shooting scene haven't given a description of the suspect.
