After months of debate, safety stripes will be coming to golf cart paths in The Villages.

A special group was convened to discuss the paths used by golf carts, bicyclists and pedestrians after several recent accidents sparked safety concerns.

An engineer told the group he was against center striping, and wasn't sure if edge striping would help, but said it probably wouldn't hurt either.

Out of the Community Development Districts, six officially approved the plan Monday for edge lines. The others will go back to their boards this week, but said they were interested in consistency and were likely to approve the striping as well.

Improvements could cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on what product is chosen for the striping.
