It looks like Brevard Public Schools will have more money for the upcoming school year.

The Brevard School Board will meet Thursday night for its first public hearing on the budget. The district expects to receive $23.6 million from the state.

About $9.2 million is not yet claimed, so the district will decide how that money should be used.

The district is also expecting more money from the half-cent sales tax because tourism spending is up. The increase in funds comes after years of program cuts and school closures for Space Coast schools.

The district is also proposing to drop the millage rate to 7.271 mills, down .064 from last year.
