A certified nursing assistant was terminated after the employee allegedly accessed thousands of patient records outside normal job responsibilities, according to Orlando Health.

The Orlando Health center conducted an investigation into the employee after a routine patient record access audit.

The investigation revealed that the employee accessed 3,200 patient medical records that may have included everything from addresses, the last four digits of social security numbers, test results, medications to other sensitive clinical information.

The former employee may have also accessed insurance information in 100 of patient records, although there is no evidence that the information has been used.

“We take this incident very seriously, and we are committed to protecting patients’ health and personal information,” said Steve Stallard, corporate director, compliance and information security, Orlando Health. “We deeply regret any concern or inconvenience this may cause our patients or their family members.”

The incident only affected those patients treated at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital and a number of patients treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center from January 2014 to May 2015.

Anyone who believes they may have been affected, and does not receive a letter by July 15, please call (866) 910-5602. Call center hours are 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday-Friday.
