Hate-filled messages were found spray-painted on a busy roadway in Flagler County on Friday.

“I’ve been in the neighborhood 12 years and I’ve never seen or heard nothing of the sort," said Richie Giddings, who lives only a few homes away.

White Power, KKK, swastikas and the N-word were sprayed into the pavement on Lakeview Boulevard near Laramie Drive in Palm Coast. "Crips," the name of a well-known gang, was also spray-painted.

“I moved from New Jersey just to be in the quiet and to see this right here. It’s appalling," Giddings added.

“The problem here, it affects everybody and I’m not sure who did it, but I hope to God they figure out that this is wrong. Totally wrong," said Ed Wolff, who also lives nearby.

Neighbors are taking the words and images spray-painted on Lakeview Boulevard so seriously that they’re ready to start a neighborhood watch program to keep this from happening again.

“At the moment I don’t want to say it’s hate but I’ll keep a close watch to make sure that nothing else of this sort is happening in the neighborhood," Giddings said.

"With all that’s going on in the world right now, it’s not far from hate because of the words that they put and the signs. As I said before, it’s appalling and ridiculous," Giddings said.

Flagler County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the graffiti. But whoever is found to be behind it, neighbors said there’s no excuse for anyone to do this.

“Ignorance is no excuse. It’s people that want to do things like this and in this case they're bringing it too close," Giddings said.

We asked but the Flagler County Sheriff's Office has not yet said when the hateful messages will be removed from the roadway.
