The Magic of Disney Animation, an attraction at Walt Disney World giving guests a behind-the-scenes look at how animated movies are made, closed for good Sunday. But a popular meet-and-greet spot featuring Mickey Mouse in his Sorcerer's Apprentice hat and cloak has not completely vanished.

As of Monday, Sorcerer Mickey has moved to a new character meeting spot at Disney's Hollywood Studios, in what was once the queue for the Studio Backlot Tour.

A sign at the entrance to the Magic of Disney Animation informed guests the attraction was closed, and to "Watch for an exciting new experience coming soon!"

The attraction was once home to the studio that created films like "Mulan," "Lilo and Stitch" and "Brother Bear," and contributed to beloved classics like "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King." Guests at what was then known as Disney-MGM Studios could spy on the animators at work from glass windows above the animation studio.

Disney shut down its Florida animation division in 2004, and the attraction was reimagined as a tribute to animation featuring an art class where guests learn how to draw a Disney character, and a 9-minute film about how Disney's animated movies are made, co-hosted by "Mulan's" Mushu the dragon.

The Magic of Disney Animation was recently a popular character meeting spot featuring Baymax from "Big Hero 6." Guests — and even some other Disney characters — helped say farewell to Baymax after his last appearance Sunday.

In addition to the Magic of Disney Animation closing, Walt Disney World confirmed the Animation Gallery gift shop next to the attraction would close in late August, Disney confirmed.

The two join the growing list of closures and demolitions at Disney's Hollywood Studios, including:

The Studio Backlot Tour's closure, in particular, appears to be connected to the upcoming expansion of Toy Story Midway Mania, announced in March. There has also been talk of plans to expand the Pixar Place area back to the now-former Backlot Tour area.

As for what new experiences could be coming to replace the closures at Disney's Hollywood Studios, all signs still point to "Star Wars."

Disney has already said it will add more Star Wars attractions to its theme parks, and Disney's Hollywood Studios is already home to the Star Tours ride and the annual Star Wars Weekends event.

It's possible Disney will reveal more details about its plans for Star Wars attractions and the parks in general at the upcoming D23 Expo in Anaheim, happening in August.
