An injured puppy found in Orlando was rescued by a pizza delivery driver Sunday, according to Orange County Animal Services, who have nicknamed the dog "Pupperoni" in a nod to her hero.

The unidentified driver found the 3-month-old puppy on North Ohio Avenue, north of State Road 408 and northwest of the Citrus Bowl, and called Animal Services, who came and picked up the pup.

The puppy's previous owner said she received the injury from another dog in the neighborhood.

Veterinarians diagnosed Pupperoni with an infection to her leg due to the injury being untreated.

The owner, who was also not identified, surrendered the puppy to Animal Services, who said an investigation was pending.

"Despite her injuries, Pupperoni is still a friendly, outgoing pup seeking companionship and attention," said Dil Luther, with Orange County Animal Services. "We cannot stress enough the importance of reporting animal abuse and neglect, as these victims cannot speak for themselves."

Animal Services said this was the second time in recent weeks a pizza delivery driver notified authorities about animal abuse. In the first incident, a driver was exposed to a cockfighting ring in Winter Haven.

If you witness animal abuse and neglect, you can report it anonymously by calling Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS (8477).
