The Charleston shooting led to a nationwide movement to take down the Confederate flag. That debate is now in Brevard County.

The Space Coast Progressive Alliance wants the Confederate flag removed from a library display in Cocoa.

The flag is part of a once-a-year historical display.

"The lesson from Charleston, South Carolina is that symbols are important," said Phil Stasik with the Space Coast Progressive Alliance. Symbols sometimes do motivate people to do bad things. The Confederate battle flag has grown to become a symbol of hate."

The Confederate Sons of America is behind the display that features the flag. So far, the group isn't commenting.
