The Cocoa Beach Pier reopened Friday morning, despite a sewer line break that forced the pier to close more than 30 minutes early Thursday night.

The city's Public Works Department said it hopes to fix the problem Friday. The pier's managers said they planned to operate as usual.

A small section of Meade Avenue remained blocked early Friday. Cocoa Beach police said some pavement gave way, creating a small hole about 3 feet deep.

Police said the hole was not threatening any homes or businesses, but the pier remains closed until the sewer line break can be fixed.

The cause of the break was not immediately known. It was the second sewer-related issue at the Cocoa Beach Pier in under 3 weeks.

Cooking oil spews from a sewer line at the Cocoa Beach Pier, Monday, May 11, 2015.

On May 10, nearly nearly 50 gallons of stored cooking oil spewed from the sewer line onto the pavement.

In that instance, Public Works officials said oil from the pier's restaurants backed up the sewer line, because the pier's drainage tank had not been emptied.

In Thursday's issue, the road and parking lot were clear.
