The Bay Hill community was alerted Wednesday morning to take extra precaution with children walking to school. A bear and gator were seen lurking around the premises, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Delguercio was keeping a watch on the scene, the sheriff's office said. The gator was lying next to a sidewalk that is used by children to walk to school. He told four school kids to take a different route to school, while the gator was there.
A fence prevented the gator from getting into a lake. The Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit released it into the lake on the other side of the fence.
Officials also responded to a black bear wandering through the Bay Hill area Friday afternoon on Brookline Drive. A passer-by took video and passed it along to police. The narration is in Portuguese and English.
The bear disappeared back into the woods.
