One person was killed and eight others, including six children, were injured Monday after an SUV overturned along State Road 40 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 40 and Cone Road, in Ormond Beach, which is west of I-95.

Rosemary Davila, 39, of Ocala, was driving a Ford Expedition east on State Road 40 around 2 p.m. when the right rear tire separated, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The SUV then traveled into the median and began to overturn. The Expedition traveled into the westbound lane. Davila and multiple passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

Davila died at the crash scene, a report states. Eighth other passengers were injured. Their names, ages and conditions are as follows, according to the Florida Highway Patrol:

  • Michael Roman, 24, of Ocala, in critical condition
  • Stephanie Roman, 25, of Ocala, in serious condition
  • Tristan Roman, 9 months old, of Ocala, in serious condition
  • Abigail Velez, 9, of Ocala, in serious condition
  • Carmen Velez, 9, of Ocala, in serious condition
  • Brady Britt, 3, of Ocala, in serious condition
  • Ryan Lewis Deeb, 5, of Ocala, in serious condition
  • Natalie Britt Rodriguez Deeb, 7, of Ocala, in serious condition

A ninth passenger, 2-year-old Mike Roman Jr., of Ocala, wasn't injured in the crash, troopers said.

State Road 40 was blocked for about five hours, but the road has since reopened.
