Police said the man wanted for the death of his girlfriend's 1-year-old son has turned himself in.

According to investigators, the baby, named Zamir, was found unresponsive at an apartment on North Fiske Boulevard in Cocoa, and pronounced dead on Thursday.

Cocoa police said they will be charging Nathaniel Dotson with felony murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated battery. Dotson turned himself in late Friday night.

Investigators said Dotson, 20, was home with Zamir when he became unresponsive on Tuesday afternoon. He was last seen outside the Fiske Boulevard apartment Tuesday, shortly after 911 calls came in about a small child in distress.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene and took the child to the hospital.

The next day young Zamir was declared brain dead, and not expected to survive. He died Thursday.

Police said Dotson was babysitting the child at the time and initially claimed the whole thing was an accident.

But as the investigation moved forward, police determined Zamir died from brain hemorrhaging caused by a skull fracture. That prompted police to initially file aggravated child abuse charges against Dotson.

The child's mother allowed Zamir's organs to be donated. The child's autopsy takes place Friday afternoon.
