A man was rescued Sunday about 22 miles from the Volusia County shore after being reported missing earlier in the day, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Watchstanders out of the Jacksonville command center were notified of the situation around 4:11 p.m. by the operator of a 33-foot-long boat.

Donnie Clark, 45, was on a "bean bag" being towed by the boat.

Three people on board the boat reported losing sight of Clark during transit, a report states.

Clark was located 22 miles off the coast of Ponce Inlet in stable condition.

Coast Guard crews covered a total search area of 500 square miles before they found Clark.

"We are very happy to have located Mr. Clark and be able to reunite him with his loved ones," said Petty Officer 1st Class Jeanne Prout, an operations specialist in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center. "Rescuing survivors is what we always strive for during missions such as this one."
