The carefree days when a freeze pop was an after-dinner treat with your kid sister can still be found in St. Johns County.

"Welcome to the Hyppo. Have you ever been here before?" Hyppo Production Manager Kyle Whalen asked guests.

Did he say Hyppo? He did.

On the famed St. George Street in St. Augustine awaits a divine treat.

"I would never put pepper and cantaloupe together on my own," said Flagler College freshman Whitney Dunlevy.

The popularity of the Hyppo gourmet ice pop is growing, along with their unique flavors.

Whalen has invented more than 100 flavors at The Hyppo, including strawberry basil, cucumber lemon and ginger plum.

"Daddle strawberry, which is a spicy strawberry. It's a local pepper and Florida strawberries, which is my favorite," Whalen said.

To date, Kyle said more than 500 flavors have emerged from his freezer.

Out of those, some are winners, while others were not.

Even Kyle said the special way to open a Hyppo pop can't save a bad flavor.

"Instead of actually smoking apples, we used liquid smoke,” Whalen said. “It's naturally smoked water and it was terrible."

But not terrible enough to now spawn seven stores and those dipped in chocolate.

Hunky or chunky, there's a flavor named after Elvis.

"We put a strip of bacon right down the center of it and froze it all together and we called it 'The King,'" Whalen said.

The Hyppo first opened with one store and now has seven.  Each pop costs $3.50.
