A homeless man was arrested Sunday after police say he beat and strangled a Dachshund puppy to death.
Ray Comer, 56, is charged with felony animal cruelty.
According to an arrest report, witnesses said Comer beat and then strangled the puppy with a shoelace on South Ridgewood Avenue in South Daytona.
The South Dayton Police Department said when officers arrived they found the puppy deceased and Comer’s Florida identification card lying on the sidewalk next to the puppy.
Police located Comer a short time later and arrested him.
He is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail on $2,000 bail.
