In another big change coming to International Drive, the World's Largest Entertainment McDonald's will be rebuilt and redesigned.

That means if you've grown attached to the giant french fries on the side of the iconic McDonald's building, you might want to say your final goodbyes to them soon.

Oerther Foods Inc., which owns and operates 25 McDonald's locations around Central Florida, said the restaurant on Sand Lake Road at I-Drive will be transformed into a new, state-of-the-art entertainment facility to join the other new attractions opening soon nearby, including the Orlando Eye, I-Drive 360 and SkyPlex.

Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, and the new, improved restaurant is set to open in the spring of 2016.

The new facility will be built next to the current, "french-fry box" restaurant, allowing it to remain open during construction.

The World's Largest Entertainment McDonald's, which opened in 1976, is a two-level restaurant featuring a large arcade upstairs, along with kids' treehouse-themed playplace and toddler play area. Diners of a certain age will even recognize one of McDonald's old mascots, the crescent moon-shaped crooner Mac Tonight, sitting at his piano in the dining area.
