Good Samaritans lifted a car off a toddler who was hit by a car in Lake County.

The 18-month-old was hit on Ridgecrest Loop, a residential loop neighborhood in Minneola on Thursday night.

A car trying to back out of a parking spot hit the toddler, who was walking along the sidewalk with some other children.

That’s when a man who happened to be in the neighborhood and a neighbor leapt into action, actually lifting the car.

“I saw a guy put it in reverse and as soon as I saw it in reverse and saw the kids, I ran as fast I could, faster than I ever did since I was in high school, stopped the car and picked it up," said Cedric Youngblood. "I’m yelling while I’m running, telling the driver to stop, and he got out of his car and pulled the baby out after I lifted it up.”

The boy was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital but thankfully is back home now. The boy's mother said she and the boy's father were inside at the time of the crash. She said he’s obviously in a lot of pain and has gashes on his head but should be ok.

Several witnesses said child play outside all the time, sometimes without parental supervision. The oldest in the group of children playing outside Thursday without supervision was, at best, 5 years old. The sheriff’s office said they are simply investigating this as a traffic crash at this time.

The driver of the car was cited for backing up improperly.
