ESPN has suspended reporter Britt McHenry after a video surfaced of her insulting a towing company clerk's intelligence, job and appearance.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Thursday that McHenry has been suspended for a week. McHenry tweeted an apology, saying she let her emotions get the best of her "in an intense and stressful moment."

The edited video posted this week to video sharing site LiveLeak claims to show McHenry berating the clerk on April 5. McHenry tells the woman she is "in the news" and will sue the company. At one point a woman off-screen warns McHenry she is being recorded.

McHenry has ties to Brevard County. On Friday, the general manager of the Brevard Manatees minor league baseball team made an offer to McHenry.

Kyle Smith said the team invited her to give an anti-bullying speech to 1,000 elementary students during Wednesday’s home game.

“We thought an invitation to talk about her mistake, why it’s important to not do that and really take accountability as opposed to a typical Twitter apology,” Smith said.

The Manatees also invited McHenry to a week-long media pass to be their field reporter at Space Coast Stadium.

“I think it’s important for kids to see somebody who made a mistake, a glaring one, and accept accountability and hopefully she will take us up on that offer," Smith said.

At this time, McHenry has not yet responded to the invitation.
