An Apopka woman who was serving as a 96-year-old man's caregiver was arrested Friday after police said she neglected to feed him and only offered to feed him dog feces.

Alice Kovach-Suehn, 56, was charged with elderly neglect.

Apopka police got involved when the woman took the man to the hospital. The man told police Kovach-Suehn wasn't feeding him.

The man weighed 89 pounds, according to a police report.

"His hands were drawn up and tight," said Ed Chittenden, the public information officer for the Apopka Police Department. "He couldn't move his hands, his legs were locked together. (He was) just (in a) really terrible condition. ... In 18 years, I have not seen a case of elderly abuse that has disturbed me as much as this."

Kovach-Suehn denies the claims and said she fed him "very well."

The man had no other underlying medical conditions except being malnourished, according to the police report.

The Department of Children and Families has been notified and will find a new place for the man to live when he's released from the hospital.
