Traffic has cleared on I-4 after a pair of crashes Wednesday morning in Orange and Seminole counties.

The first crash happened just after 9:40 a.m. at Fairbanks Avenue (Exit 87).

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a metal toolbox fell out of the back of a pickup truck in the inside lane of I-4 westbound. Drivers swirved to avoid the toolbox and a total of six cars and a semi were involved in the crash.

Three people were transported to Florida Hospital South with minor injuries. Troopers said the semi did not remain at the scene.

Two left lanes were blocked for two hours, backing up westbound traffic at least 5 miles on the interstate, to State Road 436.

Troopers do not have any information on the truck the toolbox fell out of. This crash remains under investigation.

Another crash happened a short time later, around 9:53 a.m., at mile marker 96, after Lake Mary Boulevard and before State Road 434. That crash blocked a left westbound lane, backing up traffic at least 5 miles to State Road 417 in Sanford.
