Anthony Grant will be the new mayor of Eatonville, according to unofficial results released by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections.

Grant, however, isn't new. He was the town's mayor for 20 years before he was defeated by current mayor and challenger, Bruce Mount.

Mount said in a phone interview Sunday that he planned to follow up on the number of absentee ballots counted in favor of Grant.

According to the unofficial results, Grant got 196 absentee votes, almost three times more than any other candidate.

Mount collected the second most absentee votes, at 69. Charles Bargaineer received 49, and Alvin Moore got 38.

Under Mount's administration, code enforcement condemned the Home Town Suites for structural issues. Residents had to evacuate on short notice. It has since reopened following repairs.

Mount said Grant might have taken those efforts personally. However, he doesn't excuse what he calls possible "improprieties."

"Obviously something's going on with the absentee ballots," Mount said.

Mount is also a recurring name on the ballot in Eatonville, but residents said Sunday that they aren't concerned about the "revolving door."

"It's alright with me," longtime resident Mitch Brinson said.

Mount lost his bid for re-election Saturday, just one day after a wake was held for his wife, Winifred Mount, who died Monday. She was 50.

Grant didn't reply to News 13's request for an interview.
